Plot:

Nach dem Tod seines Idols Maximus (Russell Crowe) wurde
Lucius (Paul Mescal), der Sohn von Lucilla (Connie Nielsen),
ausserhalb des Roemischen Reichs in Sicherheit gebracht. Dem
Einfluss roemischer Korruption, Intrigen und Machtgerangel
entzogen, waechst Lucius an der nordafrikanischen Kueste in
Frieden zu einem jungen Mann heran bis er eines Tages von
der Vergangenheit eingeholt wird. Seine neue numidische
Heimat wird von roemischen Legionen unter der Fuehrung von
General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) ueberfallen.
Traumatisiert von tragischen Verlusten wird Lucius nach Rom
verschleppt und an den Gladiatorenstall-Besitzer Macrinus
(Denzel Washington) verkauft. Zur Unterhaltung des Volkes
und der Co-Kaiser Geta (Joseph Quinn) und Caracalla (Fred
Hechinger) soll er in der Arena um sein Leben kaempfen. Von
unbaendiger Wut angetrieben, will Lucius dem Imperium einen
Schlag versetzen und vor allem Rache an dem Mann nehmen, den
